How To Win Friends And Influence People (self-improvement Series)
by Dale Carnegie

I hear about this book a lot. I am a bit of a people pleaser and I find I'm having more and more confrontational interactions with people, sometimes even strangers. I'm interested to learn ways to handle these situations with grace and humour and kindness, without blowing up or getting defensive or feeling like a doormat. I also read that it was like a guide to manipulate people, so I wanted to read it to make sure I am not being manipulated by every jerk who read this book. It's great though! If I am being manipulated, great! These "manipulations" are so nice. Be kind, be curious about other people, listen more than talk, compliments over condemnation and try to always see from the others point of view. Appeal to people's most noble values. Find out what they're interested in. These are all pretty obvious things but it gave me a little boost of inner confidence knowing I already do many of these things in life. Or maybe that's what Dale Carnegie wants me to feel so he can sell more books.. damn it! Jokes on him, it's a library book. Anyway this was great and the anecdotes were very interesting to me. It's kind of written like you're a big fat cat businessman wanting to become a better fatcat businessman but I feel like it's more like permission to be a nice person and know you're not being naive, but powerful, and making people feel that too. Pleasently surprised by how much I enjoyed this bokk

Amazing. All of the stories were off-putting and intriguing. The blizzard was claustrophobic and the best short story I have read in ages.

The Life Of Elizabeth I
by Alison Weir

The book is long but so interesting and written more like a story rather than a history though it certainly is that with great detail. I read parts of it several times and enjoyed it. The author makes the story really come alive.
